With Torah scrolls held by congregants in a special ceremony, Germany's largest synagogue recently was rededicated.
This historic Berlin synagogue, the Rykestrasse, which survived the Holocaust, is located at No. 53 Rykestrasse in Prenzlauer Berg district in the former East Berlin. Originally opened in 1904, this red brick house of worship underwent extensive renovation. Large stained glass windows and ornate decorations characterize this neo-Romanesque inner sanctuary which seats 1,200.
