On June 5, 2009, the Toxics Reduction Act, 2009 (TRA) received Royal Assent. The TRA is intended to reduce the use and creation of toxic substances in Ontario industrial facilities and inform Ontarians about toxic substances. Despite the specific purpose that the TRA is apparently intended to address, the proposed legislation includes a number of broad provisions and enforcement measures that will have sweeping implications for industry and manufacturing across the province.
