Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan has tried a balancing act by opening the door for a discussion on the contentious issue of inflation targeting.
Addressing MPs in Parliament yesterday, Gordhan reaffirmed the government's support for Reserve Bank Gover- nor Tito Mboweni's adherence to inflation targeting. "Our economic policies remain in place," he told a meeting of the National Assembly's finance and economic development committees. But he said he welcomed "the national dialogue" around the appropriateness of the technique.
