China customs' data show that China imported 4.8 million tons of mono-ethylene glycol (MEG) in 2007 and 5.22 million tons in 2008. The supply shortage of MEG has attracted investors. However taking into account of two factors in MEG market volume and cost competitiveness, ASIACHEM proposed that extensive applications of the coal-to-MEG process in China should be cautiously optimistic.
