If you wanted to change the world, how would you draw attention to your cause? You might put up a Web site, start a blog, or go on radio and television. But what if the Internet, radio, and television didn't exist? How would you convince people to support you?

Suffragists faced this problem 100 years ago. Their solution: organize a parade. Everyone loves to watch bands, marchers, floats, and horses. And, the organizers realized, if women held their parade in Washington, D.C., the day before the inauguration of a new president, people from the whole country would be there to see how strong the suffrage movement had become.
