I prepared several options using the word technology in a phrase that I hoped was inspirational. When the board reviewed the choices, its response was uniform: They did not want to use the word technology.

I'm sure I stammered something like, "But but-but--but it's a technology association."

To which they replied, "Yes, but technology is not a goal; it's an enabler. Technology only matters in so far as it enables sound business processes."
