A "Silver City" has been taking shape at the Alliant Energy Center over the past two weeks as Airstream enthusiasts from across the country prepare for their annual weeklong convention and international rally that starts Sunday and culminates July 4 with a public open house, parade on the grounds and closing ceremony.
When the group reaches critical mass, there will be 900 to 1,000 of the mostly silver, bullet-shaped recreational vehicles and trailers in the center's parking lot.
