Former NCAA champion Ryan Brown became the first Washington Husky runner to qualify for a Team USA spot at the world level by finishing third in the 800-meter finals at the U.S. Track and Field Championships on Sunday at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
Brown, a 2007 UW graduate, was running near the back of the eight-man pack on the final lap before cutting outside and surging past 2008 Olympian Christian Smith down the stretch to claim the final spot to the World Championships this August in Berlin, Germany.
Brown finished in 1:46.67 behind Nick Symmonds and four-time U.S. champ Khadevis Robinson.
