Warning on lack of protection for 'lone' immigrant children
ONLY a handful of children who came to Ireland without their parents are living in residential care that is subject to independent inspection, a Dail committee heard yesterday.
Children's Ombudsman Emily Logan also said many of the 'separated children' are without regular social worker contact.
"While all of these children are in the care of the State, only a small number live in approved residential centres and the majority reside in private hospitals which have been contracted by the Health Service Executive to provide accommodation for children," Ms Logan told the Joint Oireachtas ...
