MASTER DISTRIBUTORS--distributors who sell to other distributors--perform a valuable role in a typical metals market, but their function in today's low-demand, low-inventory environment is especially important.
With the economy in such disarray and demand for metals so weak, it has become routine for service centers to source small quantities from a nearby peer rather than placing large orders with the mills.
