The city's contract with the operator of its power plant - Upper Peninsula Power Company (UPPCO) - was set to expire today but was extended for three more months on Monday, officials announced.
"UPPCO extended the negotiation period to negotiate the operating contract through Sept. 30 at my request," said City Manager Jim O'Toole. "I requested it so that I could keep all the options open pending the outcome of the August referendum."
