Although the first day of summer was just a little over a week ago, another season is well under way road construction season. If you think you re seeing more highway work in the area this year than usual, you re right. Projects in the mid-$20 million range are under way or soon will be.
Omer Osman, construction engineer for District 4 of the Illinois Department of Transportation, said the 12-county area is experiencing more than three times our normal programs this year. He said most work usually starts in May, but some contractors hit the road in April this year because of the work load.One of the larger projects will start soon.
