INTRODUCTION
Accurate determination of neonatal gestational age is important for guiding both individual infant management and care-seeking and for epidemiologic purposes. To determine gestational age in the newborn, clinicians in industrialized countries rely on various prenatal and postnatal indicators, such as first trimester ultrasound and last menstrual period (LMP) (1) and neonatal data, such as the Dubowitz or Ballard scoring systems (2,3).
