Stepping squarely into the most controversial issue before the Lane County commissioners, U.S. Rep. Peter DeFazio told the county board in a face-to-face meeting Tuesday that it should do "as much as possible" to provide for public safety in Lane County.
DeFazio has said he supports reopening 84 beds at the Lane County Jail. But board chairman Pete Sorenson, part of a majority on the county budget committee that's opposed to the expense pending more information on next year's budget, said afterward that he wasn't swayed by DeFazio's appeal.
