ROSEBURG - A Eugene man is behind bars after allegedly trying to burn down a Roseburg post office to protest the U.S. government's decision to fight wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, police said.
Adam Ashe, 45, was arrested Tuesday on charges of attempted first-degree arson and first-degree criminal mischief, Roseburg police Sgt. Aaron Dunbar said.
A Roseburg police officer discovered Ashe seated on a sidewalk in front of the post office on Kane Street with a beer in his hand just after 4 a.m. Tuesday. At the time, Ashe's hands were bloody, and he had a hammer and a propane torch with him, Dunbar said.
