When U.S. Rep. Peter DeFazio says the Association of O&C Counties played a "very critical role" in the last- minute renewal of the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act, he can be presumed to know what he's talking about.
Nothing was a higher priority for the Springfield Democrat than winning an extension of federal payments to counties that once relied on federal timber revenues to fund roads, public safety and other services. He knows who his allies were, and which were effective. If DeFazio says the AOCC made a difference, it's because he saw it happen.
