Longtime city of Eugene employee John Loomis wasn't thrilled a few months ago when he heard that he might not get a cost-of-living raise for a year starting in July.
But the lead stagehand at the Hult Center for Performing Arts sees empty seats - evidence of the recession - every time he goes to work.
Attendance is down from previous years, reflecting tough financial times, said Loomis, who has worked at the Hult Center since it opened in 1982. "Nobody likes to take a pay freeze, but we understand it because the city is in real financial straits," he said.
