"Extracellular matrix (ECM) formation by cumulus cells is an important process that determines fertilization and embryo quality. Several collagen types are present in the ovarian follicular ECM and are related to proliferation, steroidogenesis, and luteinization," researchers in Brussels, Belgium report (see also Hormones).
