During the 1970s, there was little reliable information in the mainstream media concerning sexual problems, except perhaps for an occasional reference to the work of Masters and Johnson. It was during this time that Frank, Anderson, and Rubinstein (1978) found that a majority of men and women in a community sample reported experiencing at least one sexual difficulty or dysfunction.
