GRAN Canaria probably conjures up thoughts of a holiday involving sun, sand, sea, and plenty of sangria.
And this little gem of an island does offer golden sandy beaches, clear blue waters, great restaurants and lively bars.
But if you explore this magnificent destination a little further you will discover the other side of Gran Canaria - quaint rustic villages, a city seeped in history and best of all, breath-taking mountain hikes.
