The announcement to distribute railway tickets through 5,000 post offices across India and through 50 mobile vans by Union Railway Minister, Mamata Banerjee, while presenting the Railway Budget 2009-2010 this afternoon, is set to augment passenger traffic on Indian Railways. Currently, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), a subsidiary of the Indian Railways is handling the catering, tourism and online ticketing operations of the railways. IRCTC at present distributes the inventory through the website - irctc.co.in, through its wide network of travel agents and through its international sales channels.
