Feb. 14--Two small oil fields have been discovered next to the giant Prudhoe Bay field, Alaska's three largest oil producers said Friday.
The two fields -- called Midnight Sun and Sambuca -- were discovered while drilling a single well that was targeting the Sambuca field, said Ronnie Chappell, spokesman for Arco Alaska Inc.
The two fields together hold an estimated 30 million to 50 million barrels of producible oil, Chappell said. That makes them tiny by North Slope measures, where Prudhoe Bay set the standard with its more than 13 billion barrels.
