Army Chief of Staff Gen. Dennis Reimer yesterday defended to Congress the need for the Army to buy RAH-66 Comanche scout helicopters, Crusader artillery pieces and upgraded M1A2 tanks, all of which have been questioned by the National Defense Panel (NDP) as not advanced enough for future battles.
Cutting Crusader and Comanche would put the service at "tremendous risk," Reimer told the Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC), adding that the service should take a "deliberate approach" to reshaping its force for future threats.
