BOSTON - It would have been perfect - freshly-minted American citizen Jason Bay clubbing a game-winning homer on the Fourth of July - but that didn't happen.
How about David Ortiz going deep to give the Red Sox a big red, white and blue win just in time for the fireworks? Scotch that one, too.
The players just weren't following the Hollywood scripts, squashing one dream story after another, until David Aardsma took the stage to write an alternate ending, the one where the forgotten man comes back to haunt his old teammates.
