ALTON, Ill., Feb. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Argosy Gaming Company (NYSE: AGY) announced results for its fourth quarter and year ended December 31, 1997. The Company reported a net loss of $7.7 million or $.32 per share for the quarter ended December 31, 1997, before giving effect to a charge of $9.6 million in connection with the writedown of certain assets held for sale. These assets include the Argosy I vessel and the Spirit of America barge. The 6,000 square foot Argosy I is the original riverboat casino the Company utilized in Alton, Illinois from September 1991 until it was replaced by the Argosy II in May 1993.
