If you're looking for something to do with a patriotic flare this Independence Day weekend, try finding a fort.
New York has hundreds of Revolutionary War sites ranging from major fortifications to small outposts, from Ticonderoga to Oriskany.
Most of the locations are in the Hudson, Champlain and Mohawk valleys, the major water routes of 18th-century New York.
The water link between the Mohawk Valley and Lake Ontario runs through Central New York. Although forts were sparse in the area, thousands of British and
American troops sailed on the waters of the Oswego River and Oneida Lake.
