One of the benefits of today's relatively easy means of travel is our ability to hop over to New York and see a good art show. If this idea appeals to you, I'd recommend the Jewish Museum's retrospective "The Sculpture of Louise Nevelson: Constructing a Legend."
Nevelson's personal appearance, her life, and her artistic output are all on display and make a coherent whole. Her triple-layered (at least) false eyelashes--making her look like an even more exotic Martha Graham--and her head swathed in tight fabrics give her a regal appearance. And, in fact, royalty is one of her themes. She has kings and queens in black wood facing each other; and also in gold coating ...
