"When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them ... a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation. ..."
Applying these majestic words to New York's decidedly un-majestic state Senate may seem presumptuous. Yet the arrogant, reckless behavior of Senate leaders in recent weeks does call for some "inspirational" comparisons this July 4th weekend, as Central New Yorkers join their fellow citizens across the country in celebrating another year of the American experiment.
