WASHINGTONTire makers, tire deal-ers and their professional organizations are gearing up to comment on the massive, complex proposed federal rule on tire fuel-efficiency consumer information.
Published in the Federal Register June 22, the 148-page document proposes a national consumer information program to inform consumers about the effect their choices of replacement tires will have on fuel efficiency, safety and durability.
The program will include a rating system for replacement tiresavailable both online and at point of salecovering rolling resistance (fuel efficiency), traction (safety) and treadwear (durability).
