NEW YORK -- The most significant trend by far in grocery market share during 2008 was the increasing penetration of Wal-Mart Stores Inc., primarily but not entirely through its Supercenters. Wal-Mart's growth in grocery has been a result of both its expansion strategy of the last several years and the current recession, which has consumers looking for ways to save money.
