She is one of South Africa's most respected intellectuals with impeccable struggle credentials. She is a medical doctor with a PhD in social anthropology. She has served as vice-chancellor of UCT and a board member of Anglo American and Transnet.
Her name is Mamphela Ramphele. The World Bank thought so highly of her that it made her one of its managing directors. The ANC does not think she is even good enough to be on the SABC's board.
There you have it. That's how serious we can take our ruling party's stated commitment to restore the public broadcaster to its former glory.
