The Golden Age in England (1660 until 1830) produced some of the most talented and prolific architects, designers, artists and craftsmen of all time. It was a period in history when almost everything was made with good taste, excellent design and superlative craftsmanship.

With the restoration of Charles II to the throne in 1660, England was emerging from 11 years of bleak, repressive Puritan rule. Once again it was possible to express exuberance, either in behavior, by some joyful extravagance of clothing, or by embellishment of a piece of furniture, without fear of reproof from some sullen spiritual director.
