THE road to Paris is long and tortuous. Yesterday it took in a sliver of land separating sea from inland water, allowed France's Thomas Voeckler to snatch a memorable stage victory and left the Tour de France peloton high and dry.
All, that is, apart from Mark Cavendish, who headed the bunch sprint into Perpignan, thereby extending his lead in the points classification.
The Manxman has taken a liking to green. Not only was he bedecked in the green jersey he hopes to hold until the ChampsElysees in 17 days' time but he wore matching helmet, gloves, socks and race shoes.
