Community representatives and other stakeholders will meet next week to develop a plan to save Huron Central rail line operations between Sault Ste. Marie and Sudbury.
"We have a short timeframe in which to work, and the groups need to talk about ways to achieve how Huron Central will not withdraw from services in the short-term," said city CAO Joe Fratesi.
Fratesi was asked by council to lead the rail-line-saving effort.
Last month, Huron Central Railway Inc. announced that it was no longer economically viable to operate its aging infrastructure, and will start to wind down its 300-kilometre line this summer.
