In northern areas where winters are cold and long, Spring is very important in the life of the honeybee. Close attention should be given to the hive at this time, because starvation is a serious potential problem.
An early Spring feeding is essential in helping to start the brood, which needs to be strong as temperatures increase. The feeding should be a syrup consisting of one part sugar dissolved in two parts water. As the temperature rises into the 60 to 70 degree range, the bees become active and appreciate the extra food source.
