Direct-broadcast satellite players continues to monitor cable's move to digital technologies. But many don't view digital cable as an immediate threat.
"I don't see that impacting us significantly for the rest of the decade," said Charles H. Noski, president of Hughes Electronics Corp., speaking of the company's DirecTv Inc. business in an earnings call with the media last week. "One of the things that hasn't changed is the mammoth investment needed in infrastructure," apart from the digital cable boxes themselves.
