According to recent research published in the journal Experimental Biology and Medicine, "We tested the hypothesis that the protective effects of hyperthermia (HT) could be augmented by ischemic postconditioning (PostC) via enhancement of reperfusion-induced Akt phosphorylation. The role of the mitoK(ATP) channel as an effecter to protect hearts against ischemia/reperfusion injury was also investigated."
"In isolated perfused heart experiments using a Langendorff apparatus, 30 min of no-flow global ischemia was followed by 120 min of reperfusion. Ischemic PostC, 5 cycles of 10-sec reperfusion/10-sec ischemia, was achieved at the initial moment of reperfusion. ...
