The few who bet on CD-R's potential as a successful consumer format won big.
The gyrations of the stock markets in recent months have turned quite a few stomachs sour. Problems with economies thousands of miles away and great uncertainty about how long the good times would last caused considerable nervousness on Wall Street.
The same, ironically, can be said for the disc markets. CD's long and healthy run seems to be starting to lose a little steam, and just as the markets were crumbling in response to Asian financial troubles and around an otherwise healthy U.S. economy, the robust CD format's fate was tied to slacking record sales.
