The economic meltdown has touched an expanding Ames Rubber Corp.but only lightly this time around.
The rubber product manufacturer has laid off 25 employees at its 110,000-sq.-ft. headquarters and production facility in Hamburg. The layoffs, which included both production and administrative personnel, followed a loss of some expected business from a customer who has been impacted by the recession.
"So, I guess you could say it was economy related, President and CEO Chuck Roberts said. The layoffs were not something the company wanted or expected to do, he said, but the lost business forced it to make the move.
