At the intersection of electronic data interchange and the Internet, the automobile industry has managed to accomplish what many bankers have only been dreaming about.
The industry has united behind the Automotive Network Exchange, or ANX.
It will put 40,000 auto assemblers and suppliers on a common technical footing for EDI, electronic mail and other communications, computer-aided design, and other applications.
Some 36 companies-including the Big Three automakers-are participating in an ANX pilot, scheduled to run through April.
