'ALBA' (dawn), the Italian-led humanitarian intervention in Albania, ended in August. The first troops of the Forza Multinazionale di Protezione, FMP, left the 'Country of the Eagles' on 18 July and completed their withdrawal by 12 August. After three months from the beginning of the intervention, the soldiers of the multinational force left a new political situation. As a result of the 29 June general elections in which the socialist party obtained a strong majority, Albania has a new government. Fatos Nano, the socialist leader, is the prime minister.
