Within the last 5 to 10 years, researchers have examined the contribution of methods used in basic experimental psychology to psychopathology and behavior therapy (Plaud & Vogeltanz, 1993). Tests such as the Stroop task (Foa, Ilai, McCarthy, Shoyer, & Murdock, 1991), word-meaning suppression (Maki, O'Neill, & O'Neill, 1994), and tests of negative priming (Enright & Beech, 1991) have all been used.
