A departure from traditional thinking, this method of green sand system control is being accepted overseas at a greater rate than in the U.S.
While the focus of this article is green sand systems, consider for a moment your melt shop and how the melt is analyzed before pouring. A predesigned charge makeup is carefully controlled to ensure that only minor adjustments are needed at tapping. After melting, a metal sample is taken from the furnace to determine its composition.
