Angelo "Arkie" Albanese, who was Manlius village mayor from 1978 to 2001 and had a street leading to the village offices named after him, died Wednesday.
Albanese, 85, had just attended the Manlius Fourth of July celebration, and rode in the parade in one of the vehicles still wearing his hospital bracelet. He was released on a special pass to attend the event, where he served as a grand marshal along with several former mayors.
Manlius Village Mayor Mark-Paul Serafin said he recently visited Albanese in the hospital and was saddened to hear of his death.
