Thompson is trying to use excitement, in the form of a unique concept and lively marketing, to crack smiles and crack the $10 billion-a-year U.S. pet food market.

Thompson's Pet Pasta Products Inc. is based on the notion that what America's dogs and cats really want is their very own pasta. The company's pet food has what Thompson calls "the pasta advantage": It's a roughly half-and-half combination of ziti-size noodles and the brown kibble nuggets familiar to most American pet food purchasers.
