Based on the premises spelt out in the introductory chapter, this bi-lingual Portuguese-English language work sets out to examine the effects of Portuguese culture on the physical and social landscape of former Portuguese settlements in South Asia. Broadly speaking, it seeks to evaluate the monumental legacy of the early Portuguese settlers in the coastal regions of South Asia such as Bombay, Cochin, Goa and Colombo. It also ponders the creolized religious, linguistic and cultural characteristics and inheritance of their Indo-European descendants.
