The present health care system is ineffective, inappropriate, and very expensive. This is mainly because the assumption is that the "answer" to problems of ill health lies in western|curative medico-technical solutions, with no attempt to match these interventions with people's basic health needs that are paramount for the promotion of wellness.
The Primary Health Care (PHC) model confronts this|imbalance and recognises that many of the problems are not susceptible to medical interventions, but to solutions that lie outside the health sector; in other areas like agriculture, education, development, etc.
