The world s first piloted aircraft capable of taking off using power from fuel cells, producing zero carbon dioxide emissions, recently made its maiden voyage over the German city of Hamburg.
The Antares DLR-H2 converts hydrogen into electrical energy in a direct electro-chemical reaction with oxygen without the combustion. The only by-product is water, meaning that if the original hydrogen fuel is created using only renewable sources, then the motor-glider is entirely carbon dioxide free.
