Wheezing, coughing, hives and difficulty breathing are just some of the potentially life-threatening symptoms an increasing number of South Africans, especially children, are experiencing.
This is because of an increased number of South Africans being diagnosed with allergic diseases.
This emerged at the annual Allergy Society of South Africa (Allsa) Congress in Durban this weekend, where more than 200 delegates from across the country met to discuss the issue of allergies.
Although various concerns were raised, there is no need for alarm.
