SHE IS a qualified anthropologist, but Rwandan singer Somi prefers the bright lights of the concert stage. Somi is one of the few East African artists to perform in South Africa - and she'll get her chance at the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz at the end of August.
Somi, who is based in New York, will be bringing her special brand of music to Johannesburg on August 28 when she performs on the Mbira stage. Her eclectic musical mix ranges between soul and jazz, with references to her African heritage and rhythms of the continent. She will be using South African musicians in her band.
